The enforcement wing of the department of town and country planning (DTCP) on Friday slapped notices on 118 developers, asking them to stop all construction activity at their project sites across Gurgaon with immediate effect.
The department shot off the notices through emails, instead of registered post, for speedy compliance, and formed a number of teams to enforce the order, threatening to impose fine and/or cancel licence if any developer is found to be violating the ban.
The DTCP took the action in keeping with the NGT order passed on Thursday, prohibiting all construction activities by any person/agency, private or government, across NCR till further orders. However, interior work (causing no dust whatsoever), where no construction material is used, can be carried out. The NGT will hear the matter again on November 14.
In its order, the NGT had also directed the concern departments to constitute teams to inspect project sites to find out if construction materials, particularly cement and sand, were lying in the open. The departments have been asked to seize uncovered and unprotected materials and extract compensation from the builder for causing environmental hazards. While MCG is expected to inspect the core city areas, while DTCP is expected to enforce the direction in new sectors along Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) and Northern Peripheral Road (NPR).
