The Jagatsinghpur district administration has planned to hand over additional 700 acres of land at the Posco project site to the state owned land acquisition agency, Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) within next 15 days. This was announced by District collector Satya Kumar Mallick. Posco require 2700 acres of land to start first phase of the project and it had already acquired 2000 acres earlier. The company will set up an 8 million tonne steel capacity.
The state government has planned to acquire 900 acres of land before May 25 and after handing over 700 acres to the South Korean company the remaining 200 acres will be used forconstruction of township and other ancillary facilities. Meanwhile, construction of the coastal corridor connecting the Paradip port to the Posco project site has started. “Work on the coastal road is going on smoothly. Posco has given Rs 10 crore to the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) to
expedite the construction work,” Mallick said.
