Visakhapatnam Port trust’s (VPT) plans to develop a satellite port near the 17th century Dutch township of Bheemunipatnam will receive a booster with the Delhi-based consultant Aecom getting ready to submit a detailed feasibility report (DFR) soon. The satellite port envisaged for nearly a decade by the Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) is aimed at decongesting traffic at the main port. Aecom, is also entrusted with the responsibility of submitting layout plan for developing a Greenfield Fishing Harbour so as to relocate the existing fishing harbour in the city adjoining the outer harbour.
The satellite port is expected to have a cargo handling capacity of 15 to 20 million tonne. PPP mode will be selected for raising an estimated Rs.2,000 crore required for the project.
