Bell helicopters and Uber Technologies Inc. have joined forces to revolutionise mass transportation by introducing ‘air-taxis’, which they hope to be operational by middle of the next decade.
“Air taxi is the next step forward for the mass transportation industry, and it’s very important for us to make sure we are among the disrupters to think about what should be transportation in the next 10-20 years,” Patrick Moulay, executive vice president for commercial helicopter sales, told Bloomberg Television’s Haslinda Amin in an interview.
Uber disclosed its ambitious ‘air-taxi’ concept last year, while identifying five partner companies with various specialties aimed at making the vision a reality. The company said, “We’re not going to see a taxi flying tomorrow, but it’s much closer than what people think.”
Uber technologies plans to start its initial testing as soon as 2020 in Dallas and Dubai citing the cities as the most favourable places to field high interests in aviation.
