The transformation of the Apollo facility in Mehsana, near Ahmedabad, began in 2014 and will be completed this April.
The first phase was initiated with the partnership of Ammann and Apollo and completed in 2016, included construction of two halls for the manufacture of asphalt-mixing plants for the Indian market.
The second phase, which is nearing completion, has been even more extensive. Old production halls were removed and replaced with new buildings. Additional structures were built to house administrative staff and accommodate product training center for the customers.
“The entire project had to be completed while the manufacturing activities are still on ” says Nayanesh Modi, Project manager. “This required exceptional organization, because we could not afford to lose our production capacity. Raw materials were shifted to other buildings and an additional hall was rented nearby to keep pace with the production volumes.”
Entire production is now returning to the new, state-of-the-art facility. The expansion also provides an opportunity to include several outside operations into a single location.
The Ditasan location now will house manufacturing facilities, administrative offices, a training centre, a compactor-testing centre and a painting and sandblasting shop. The 120 000 m2 facility will employ 800 personnel.
Manufacturing for both local and export markets will include all Apollo asphalt-mixing plants including the new ValueTec, pavers and related products. Ammann products that will be manufactured at the facility include high-end ABA Unibatch asphalt mixing plants, Tandem – ARX 91 & Soil – ARS 121 compactors; Paver models AFT & AFW 500 and core plant components.
In addition, Ammann Elba concrete-mixing plants will be manufactured at this facility for the Export market.
The production facility features better layouts that will ensure higher efficiency. The processes are technologically advanced as well- modern robotics used for welding, new paint shop- will improve the quality of the products and at the same time reducing the lead times for deliveries.
Ammann and Apollo products played a role in the construction of the new facility. A key entrance road was built with low-temperature asphalt produced by an Ammann ABA UniBatch Asphalt-Mixing Plant. The road was paved with an Ammann AFT 500 Asphalt Paver and compacted with an Ammann ARX 91 Tandem Roller – machines built in India at the new manufacturing halls.
