According to the civic body authority, it has issued nearly 750 tax recovery notices in the industrial area in last one week, 100 more notices will be sent in the coming couple of days.
MC’s estimation is that there are around 2,100 industrial units in both phases of Chandigarh’s industrial areas. “We have been working on daily basis to identify industrial property tax defaulters and have started sending notices to them. If people will not pay their tax on time, they will be sent the attachment notice. If they fail to pay the taxes then their properties will be sealed according to the rules and regulation,” said a senior MC official.
The money raised through property taxes, from all kinds of properties, has turned out to be a major source of income for the MC.
Cash-strapped civic body authority naturally has been tightening the noose on tax defaulters.
Recently, the civic body authority has also started the survey to impose the residential property tax on newly included 13 villages of the city.
Teams from the MC are already on the ground, taking a count of the properties and they are likely to submit their reports by the end of this month.
