Danfoss India, has partnered with the Confederation of Indian Industry – Southern Region (CII-SR) for the “CII-SR Water Alliance” project, to restore waterbodies in and around Chennai. The project, which commenced earlier in the month of May, was launched at the Vembakkam Pond, Kanchipuram district – in the presence of Dr. K. Deepa Mala, Director and Head – Development Initiative, Confederation of Indian Industry – Southern Region and Mr. Ravichandran Purushothaman, President – Danfoss India.
To begin with, Danfoss will work towards the restoration of waterbodies near its Oragadam Campus beginning with the Vembakkam Pond. The restoration of the pond will be carried out in multiple phases such as: current state analysis of the waterbody, removal of physical debris, desilting, bund strengthening and proactive fencing and periodic review, in association with CII and related subject matter experts.
In 2015, over 1500 tonnes of waste was removed during the clean-up from the pond, with combined efforts by Danfoss employee volunteers and villagers.
Commenting on the occasion, Ravichandran Purushothaman said, “With our vision of ‘Engineering Tomorrow’s India’, we are always working towards a greener and sustainable tomorrow, keeping in mind the needs of our future generations. Through this initiative, we seek to give back to the society by providing the local communities access to a clean and usable water source and educate them on the importance of preserving water bodies.”
