    The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has fined the Delhi government – ₹ 50 crores towards inaction against steel pickling units. Industrial activity is prohibited in residential areas and against this clause, NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel has fined the ruling party for not closing the industrial units despite specific directions.

    The order also directs the government to take necessary action to close these units with immediate effect – following a plea by an NGO, the All India Lokadhikar Sangthan, seeking the execution of its order as per the Delhi Master Plan (DMP), 2021.

    Earlier, the green panel had directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to take action against stainless steel pickling industries in residential areas as they fall under the prohibited list of industrial activity in residential areas.

    14 steel pickling industries in Wazirpur here been identified as operating without permission and not complying with mandatory pollution standards. The Delhi govt. has been directed to close them with immediate effect.
