The newly-inaugurated domestic terminal at Chennai airport will be fully operational from 10 March, AAI official said. Passengers may have to pay more on user development fee for using the new terminal that have more space, better restrooms with a ‘baby changing station’ and parking facilities. The new terminal will have natural lighting through the day and lights will be switched on only after dark. The eco-friendly building is attached to seven aerobridges that provide easy exit for arriving or departing passengers.
The passengers can take an escalator or the staircase to reach the ground level without difficulty. The parking facility can accommodate 1200 vehicles at the wide open space in front of the new terminal. AAI will collect Rs 166 for domestic passengers and Rs 667 for international passengers as user development fee from 10 March. The new terminal is built to handle nearly 14,000 passengers a day in both the arrival and departure areas.
