Concrete floors made with ESK-SIC’s Silicon Carbide KRISTALLIT® are not slippery even when wet or oily. Their steel reinforcement does not rust and they are resistant to wear especially by rolling friction and sliding friction. Conventional cement screeds, on the other hand, are not sufficiently resistant to the heavier wear common today. They necessitate frequent, inconvenient and costly repairs as well as constituting a safety hazard.
Mixed with cement, KRISTALLIT® is incorporated by sprinkling it onto the screed or by applying a covering layer. It is used as a hard aggregate for
- Anti – static, wear resistant floors, Industrial floors
- River bank protection, Coatings for vertical or sloped
- Walls, Cyclones, Walkways
The ratio of KRISTALLIT® to cement depends on the method of incorporation, the desired thickness of the hard aggregate layer and the type of wear. For a 1-mm per m2 sprinkled layer, about 1 to 1.2 kgs of KRISTALLIT® are required. If the other method is used, the ratio of KRISTALLIT® to cement should be 1:1 TO 2;1 parts by weight for the covering layer.
KRISTALLIT® with a grain size between 0.5 to 3 mm satisfies all conditions for classification in hard aggregate classKS of DIN Standard 1100 and its quality is monitored at our request by the Staatliche Materialprufungsanstalt Damstadt, Germany.
Because of the good electrical conductivity of silicon carbide, KRISTALLIT® is used in blends with other materials (e.g. graphite) or unblended in anti-static floors. Epoxy resins are usually used as binder. KRISTALLIT® does not dissolve in acids and alkalis and is compatible with all binders.

The most important features of ESL-SIC’s Silicon Carbide KRISTALLIT® are its extreme hardness, non-slip properties and chemical inertness. Since the grain edges of KRISTALLIT® do not blunt, surfaces made with it retain their non-slip properties throughout their service life. As a result, there is much less likelihood of accidents.
ESK-SIC’s Silicon Carbide KRISTALLIT® is available in sizes 0.5-3 mm, 18/35, 35/70, 50/150, 70/F.
