Tamil Nadu Government has been asked to send a formal proposal to the Aviation Ministry for constructing a new greenfield airport at Sriperumbudur, Mr K.N. Shrivastava,Civil AviationSecretary has said at the inauguration of the newly built international and domestic terminals and upgraded airside facilities at Chennai airport. Tamilnadu government has allotted a budget of Rs 20,000-crore in its Vision 2023 document for the airport to come up in about 4,800 acres for which feasibility report is ready. Even though the Ministry has principally approved the project the state government must seek a formal approval from the centre. The Chennai terminal was inaugurated by Vice-President, Hamid Ansari in the presence of Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh and Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah.
