Baldev Raj, former director of the Indira Gandhi Atomic Center for Atomic Research (IGCAR) will be conferred with the Eminent Engineer Award from the Engineering Council of India on April 4th 2014 alongside Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy.
Currently residing in Coimbatore and heading the research team at PSG institutions, Baldev Raj is herald as a champion for the cause of the Fast Breeder Reactor. He has dedicated over 37 years towards the cause of propagating the benefits of running reactors on oxide fuels. It was under his influence that the government decided to give the project a green signal. The reactor is due to go critical later this year.
The Engineering Council of India was formed in 2002 out of an association of engineers from various fields. Supported by the Government of India, the body is charged with uplifting the standards of engineering practices and recognizing outstanding contributions by individuals. Prior recipients of the ‘Eminent Engineer Award’ were E Sreedharan, Delhi Metro Chief and F.C Kohli, an eminent software engineer. Source: Times of India
