Today, with unprecedented growth, Schwing Stetter India has successively dedicated manufacturing bases for its four core product range namely Concrete Batching Plant, Concrete Pump Concrete transit mixer and self loading mixer.

Masterbuilder had a conversation with Mr. V.G.Sakthikumar, Managing Director, Schwing Stetter Sales and Services Private Limited, wherein he shared insights on market potential, focal points for 2019 and much more.

Here are the excerpts of the interview.

  1. Give insight on year wrap up of Schwing Stetter India?

It was a fantastic year and we grew 35% between 2017 and 2018. Thanks to the continued investment in the road sector and the revival of real estate in certain markets.  We are able to maintain healthy growth between 2017 to 2018.

  1. What are the plans for 2019 Schwing Stetter India in regard to road construction market?

2019 being an election year, we expect new projects announcement to stop after the announcement of election dates. So, we don’t expect good growth in 2019. We expect the market to be in the same level as 2018.

  1. In regard to the customer support system, what initiations are being taken by the company?

With an increasing population of Schwing Stetter machineries across the states in India, we have increased our after sales support in line with the machine population growth by 33 %. In regards to training, the target is to train 20 thousand people by July this year. In the last four-five months, we have trained about 500 plus people. The main problem we are facing is the mandate needs to come from the Government that they should appoint only certified operators, in the wake of providing training. While such kind of rolling is not expected over night, operators can be certified gradually in parts. We are regularly interacting with the Skill Ministry regarding the same and are also taking the help of NSDC to push our case. Today, driving is a profession but operating construction equipment was not considered as a profession. If they mandate that all of them have to have only certified operators, automatically that will become a profession. People will get trained on that which also gives them a source of employment.

  1. What are the focal plans and market potential of 2019?

We expect a good growth in material handling product and continued growth in piling rig business. We sincerely hope the Government of India continues to invest in concrete roads for us to take advantage of using concrete.
