Here the excerpts of the interview.
Highlight on the products being launched and showcased in the JCB stall this year? What are the standout features of JCB machines in this Excon?
JCB India Limited showcased an exciting line-up of innovative and intelligent machines at the 9th edition of Excon 2017, in Bangalore. The new range of intelligent machines exhibits a blend of technology and digital innovation to meet the demand for world-class machines to build India’s NextGen Infrastructure. These machines are packed with best in class ‘Industry first’ features.
JCB India’s pavilion theme ‘Future is Intelligent’ resonated with the theme of Excon 2017 of Fuelling NextGen Infra building by using smart and innovative technologies. JCB’s commitment towards providing world class digital experience to its customers is testimony to its dedication in the industry. JCB also introduced customer centric mobile applications which ensure all the relevant information is just a click away for users.
Applications such as JCB Livelink, Smart Diagnostic, Parts E-sell and Digital product manuals will re-define how customers interact with manufacturers. They are all aimed at improving the overall customer experience by providing all the important information in real time.
JCB introduced the world’s first Backhoe Loader with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) called Easy Shift and its largest ‘Made in India’ 38 Ton Tracked Excavator at the Excon 2017. As a result of continual innovation at JCB India, the iconic Backhoe Loader is more powerful and packed with 30 new innovative features, including 15 industry firsts, and five worlds’ first such as an SOS switch, Economy and Power Mode, Guide me home, Smart App Machine Diagnostics. The new 38T ‘Made in India’ Tracked Excavator – the JCB 380LC comes in two variants – the JCB 380LC Xtra and the JCB 380LC Quarry Master (QM).
The JCB380LCQM offers 16% Higher Lifting Capacity owing to a combination of high hydraulic power and high operating weight and provides 6% more output while handling blocks. The JCB Dieselmax engine return a 3% high fuel efficiency and generates high torque at low speed to suit the job needs.
The JCB 380LC Xtra comes with a powerful engine and its hydraulic performance gives the power to do more than expected. The wide range of heavy duty buckets can be used as per different applications and strata to maximise output which is available from 1.4 to 2.3 cu.m. Power boost feature increases hydraulic system pressure to provide higher digging force and lifting capacity when needed.
JCB also introduced its range of Livelink enabled Diesel Gensets. This is our new range of diesel generators which is designed to meet user requirements in terms of performance, serviceability, strength, safety and space. Along with this there is a comprehensive range of world class Gensets ranging from 125kVA to 200kVA.
The JCB 116 Soil Compactor is a first in the industry to have Compaction Monitoring System (CMS) integrated with Livelink. The CMS ensures uniform compaction by optimising the overall compaction process. The on-board Digital display for real time monitoring ensures accuracy in compaction, helps to reduce number of passes and saves fuel and time. This unique system not only improves the quality of compaction, but also provides real time alerts on over-compaction.
The Loader Productivity Management System (LPMS) in the JCB455ZX helps in real time monitoring of individual weight of loaded bucket, Total Accumulated Weight, Tare weight, and Number of loaded buckets. Its integration with JCB LiveLink is another Industry First that is used to transmit the monitored value to server for analytics and report generation.
We also showcased a revolutionary range of Material Handling Equipment – the Telehandlers, the Skid Steer Loaders and the Super Loader. JCB is a pioneer in the concept of Telehandlers globally since 1977, and remains to be the world’s first choice in this segment ever since. In India, JCB offers three variants of Telehandlers – a 7m lift height machine known as the 530-70, a 11m lift height machine known as 530-110, and a 17m lift height machine which is the newly imported 540-170. The 7m Telehandler is the Waste Master machine which is designed for the waste recycling industry.
This range of JCB machines is accompanied by a wide range of attachments such as Rock Breakers, Power Grab, Unloading Rock, Concrete Block Handler, Vibratory Roller, Industrial Grappler, General Purpose Shovel, Side Shift Fork, Crane Hook – Fork Mounted, Man Platform, Side Dump Bucket and Rib Erectors among others which were on display as well.
JCB brought its state-of-the-art range of ecoMAX engine – 6 cylinder mechanical and 4-cylinder Common rail NA to the Excon 2017. JCB began manufacturing engines in India in 2011 at its state-of-the-art engine facility at Delhi – NCR. The ecoMAX engine is the first engine in India that has been developed exclusively for off highway applications and is available in a wide range of naturally aspirated and turbo-charged variants. Today, over 1,50,000 of these ‘Made in India’ engines are operating successfully in the Indian market.
The 3T and 5T Mini Excavator – known as the JCB30Plus and the latest addition of JCB 51R are on display too. These power packed machines will take productivity to new heights, as they are clearly leaders in their class, when it comes to lifting and stability; combined with high tractive effort, tracking speed and pushing power. The machine is reliable and robust with a fast cycle time, which in turn increases productivity. The machine is an ideal equipment for use in restricted spaces such as in urban infrastructure applications, pipeline work and other applications.
What are the telehandlers range being showcased?
JCB showcased a 7m WasteMaster Telehandler (530-70), specifically designed for the recycling industry. The new Telehandler is designed to particularly work in applications such as solid waste management, scrap handling, glass recycling, and casting industry etc. Additionally, there were two more models on display – the 11m (530-110) and the 17m (540-170).
JCB has been pioneering the concept of Telehandlers globally since 1977 and has remained the world’s first choice in this segment ever since. Telehandlers comes with attachments such as General Purpose Shovel, Heavy Duty Forks, Bucket with Grab, Crane Hook – Fork Mounted, Grain Bucket, Power Grab, Man Platform and Drum Handlers. These make the machine more multifunctional and give more value to customers.
How is JCB leveraging IoT?
Innovation is one of the cornerstones of JCB’s business strategy. Over the years, we have made significant investments in ensuring our customers get technologically advanced and innovative products. Presently, JCB India is leveraging digital technology by integrating the Internet of Things and Big Data in its products and services.
JCB India has pioneered the integration of Telematics in its range of machines in the Indian Construction Equipment industry. JCB Livelink, introduced in 2015, is an advanced Telematics Technology that allows effective fleet management. This technology aims to deliver constructive, real-time information to increase productivity and efficiency.
Both, the equipment owners and operators can access information such as fuel consumption, idle time, machine location, fluid levels and service alerts on their mo-bile devices or laptops using the internet.
Through a hardware and software combination, Livelink collects data and information about the machine’s health, important vital parameters and location via built-in sensors. This information is sent to a JCB Secured System using mobile communication technology. It is also sent to machine owners via SMS, e-mail and also through the website. The key features of Livelink are:-
- GPS tracking, operating hours
- Tow away alerts, Geofencing, Timefencing
- Fuel level information and machine utilisation reports
- Engine status
- Service reminders and machine data backup
- Critical machine health alerts
Today, over 60,000 Livelink enabled machines are working successfully in India.
