Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Monday that the state should stop dependence on hydroelectric power. While declaring Kerala a totally electrified state, the chief minister called upon people to find a permanent solution for the power shortage in the state and tap the renewable resources.
“The state will no longer be able to survive only with energy management. A long term and effective plan to tap renewable energy is more important,” said the chief minister. “Even now we are satisfied discussing controversies related to solar energy,” quipped the chief minister. He added it is high time we concentrated on realistic projects to improve power production, forgetting controversies about solar energy.
Vijayan also stressed the need for far-sighted plans, including the utilisation of rooftop solar panels for energy generation. Even offices and other buildings working 9 to 5 should depend on solar power, he added.
