On Monday, E Sreedharan, DMRC Principal Advisor, said at Thiruvananthapuram, that in April this year, a 13 km stretch of Kochi Metro will be opened.
In a meeting Sreedharan had with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Thiruvananthapuram the decision in this regard was taken.
Sreedharan later told reporters, “The inaugration of the 13 km stretch from Aluva-Palarivattom will be held in April this year.”
In the first phase normally only a 6-7 km stretch is inaugurated.
However, in the Kochi metro project, in the initial stage itself a 13 km stretch was being inaugurated.
After the Railway safety commissioner gives his nod the exact date of the inaugural function will be finalised.
The state government is keen that KMRL and DMRC explore the possibilities of opening the first phase of Metro system from Aluva to Maharaja’s college.
