MahaRERA invites citizens to become its ‘informers’

In its latest circular, the MahaRERA stated that any alert citizen can now register complaint against the unregistered real estate projects on its website for free, provided s/he does not want any hearing.

In the case of hearing, the complainant would have to shell out Rs 5,000. “The entire exercise aims at ensuring the registration of maximum projects under the RERA Act,” MahaRERA officials said.

To ensure easy access to the citizens, the online procedure has been simplified. “The source or the informer will have to just submit the details of the projects online under the non-registration tab of the MahaRERA portal. Only the cellphone number would be required, which will be verified through OTP (one-time password),” MahaRERA secretary. After the complaint, MahaRERA will appoint technical officers to look into the complaint and gather information from the promoter as well as through site visit. “If the hearing is demanded, the technical officer would directly schedule the hearing with the authority and provide the date to both the parties (the complainant and the developer),” the officials said.
