“There are many illegal constructions in the city and we want to regularize them, for which a high-level meeting will soon be held to decide on the penalty tax. For the illegal buildings constructed till December 2015, compounding charges will be decided by the civic body,” the chief minister said after performing bhoomi pujan of the proposed Krantiveer Chapekar National Museum at Keshavnagar ground in Chinchwad.

“In the 19th century, plague had spread in Pune city. WC Rand, who was the British plague commissioner of Pune then, employed measures like forced entry into households, removal of idols and stripping of women. The three youths, Damodar Chapekar, Balkrishna Chapekar and Vasudeo Chapekar, assassinated Rand on July 3, 1897,” the chief minister said, adding that the youths were hanged later.

The chief minister also said the waste-to-energy plant at Moshi garbage depot and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) at Chikhli have been postponed once again.

On PMAY project, BJP MLA Laxman Jagtap said, “There are some complaints about the cost of the project, which will now be studied to rectify any errors.” He was also present at the bhoomi pujan function.

Other attendees included MP Shrirang Barne, Mahesh Landge, district guardian minister Girish Bapat, mayor Nitin Kalje, ruling party leader Eknath Pawar, municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar and president of the Chapekar memorial committee Girish Prabhune.
