As per information given by MC commissioner Rajesh Jogpal, Panchkula has all facilities and few of them are under process, which will be necessary for getting the status of smart city.
Providing the details, the commissioner stated that a solid waste management plant was coming up in the city and the garbage segregation system was also going on in full swing.
Besides this, the MC will be soon installing toilets at all bus stops of the city, both for males and females.For this, tenders have already been passed. e-toilets have also been provided at public places by the MC at some points in the city to make it open defecation free (ODF). More will be placed at other spots in the city.
Tackling the problem of mosquitoes in the city and to end diseases like dengue and malaria, 10 NASA-developed advance mosquito killing machines have been placed at various parts of the district. Eight underground dustbins have also been installed as an innovative idea in the city.
For making the city smarter, 379 CCTV cameras at 17 different locations will be installed and work on this is under progress with 63 already installed.Besides, two drones have also be bought. Fifteen villages have been provided the facility of sewage and 12 villages of the district have been provided fresh water supply.
Swachhta map mobile phone application is being used to take feedback of residents and acting on these many problems being faced by the residents have been reportedly resolved. To make city stray cattle free, a special cow shed in Sukhdarshanpur is already under construction. A dog pound is also under construction there for keeping stray dogs.
Roundabouts of the city are under revamp and are being developed to reduce accidents taking place at the roundabouts. New entry and exit points of the Panchkula would be made world class level. Parks of the city have been developed and facility of open gym has also provided to residents in some public parks. City’s old streetlights have been replaced with LED lights, claimed officials of the MC.
Jogpal further said that, “With all the development taking place in Panchkula district, we will send a detailed report to the Centre with the help of the state government to provide Panchkula special status of a smart city. We have providing all facilities which a smart city needs to have.”
However, president, city’s Citizens Welfare Association S K Nayar, said, “When the smart city competition was started, no efforts were put by the MC to develop the city and now they were demanding special status without even competing in the smart city competition.”
