In a move to boost coal output by 300 million tonnes by providing linkages to untapped mines,  Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked the railways to deploy additional resources to fast-track the execution of three new rail lines projects in Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand.

Costing over Rs 7,000-crore, the rail projects are being fully funded by state-run Coal India. Once built, the new rail lines spanning 346 km would boost India’s annual coal output by 55% or 300 million tonnes and add Rs 10,000 crore to the cash strapped Indian Railways’ annual revenues.
