Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone of a 14 lane Delhi-Meerut expressway. Speaking on the occasion he said. “This is the national highway of development. It will emerge as a major factor for development of western Uttar Pradesh”. He added that the people in the villages aspire for good roads, as they know it is the key to development. Talking about pollution, the PM said, “During the 1857 revolution our freedom fighters showed us the way to freedom, and now Delhi Meerut Express highway is all set to show us a way to pollution-free India.” Modi also mentioned the Golden Quadrilateral project of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, and also the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in his speech.
