Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE), which will ease traffic and reduce travelling time in Delhi, will have an intelligent traffic system (ITS), the Government said. The proposed six-lane access controlled expressway will have ITS with a centralized control centre, closed tolling system, which also include components like CCTV, weather monitoring, variable message signs, advanced communication system etc., Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Pon Radhakrishnan said. The work for construction of EPE has already been awarded in six packages on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode with a total outlay of Rs. 7558.30 crore. Another Delhi-Meerut Expressway is proposed to be constructed up to Dasna along National Highway-24 and from Dasna to Meerut along a greenfield alignment. In the first phase, the E-way section will be developed on Hybrid Annuity mode. Delhi-Dasna section is of fourteen lane configuration (Six lanes Expressway and Four lanes on either side) and Dasna-Hapur section is of six lane configurations. The bids for these stretches have already been invited. Both the projects are aimed at de-congesting traffic in the national capital.
