Sandhu said charges of Rs 2000 per square meter has been fixed in the policy but it should be reduced if the government wants more people to come forward. He also requested to increase the time limit of this policy.

The mayor suggested that regularization fee should be genuine so that more people could be covered under the policy and the local bodies department should increase the time frame for the policy from two months to four months. “There should be uniform rule for all colonies and no separate norms should be finalized for core areas or other developed areas,” he said.

In the draft of one-time settlement policy, it has been mentioned that buildings constructed after March 31, 2018 will be demolished and there will be no regularization of any violation. However, the mayor demanded that last date should be fixed on the date when the cabinet approves the policy.

Notably, under the draft policy it has been mentioned that within a month from the date of implementation of policy, any owner of the building who has committed a non-compoundable building violation may disclose voluntarily such violation and apply online in the prescribed form along with photographs of such building, duly signed by the owner, to the competent authority concerned. Thereafter within a period of two months, the applicant shall submit the required information in prescribed form along with all the requisite documents/ plans and prescribed application fee.
