Registration of sale deeds stopped in Jalandhar

After the sub-registrar stopped registering sale deeds of properties in the city, three Congress MLAs of Jalandhar have taken up the matter with chief minister Amarinder Singh. The row erupted following a list of unauthorized colonies prepared by the Jalandhar municipal corporation.

MLAs Sushil Rinku, Bawa Henry and Rajinder Beri, in their meeting with the CM on September 18, demanded that the no objection certificate (NOC), required in case of properties in unauthorized colonies, should also be done away with. The MLAs said they had urged the CM to issue directions to have two sub-registrars in Jalandhar and also for doing away with the practice of NOCs.

Till recently, the sale deeds were being registered without NOCs, though these were mandated by the state government in February. “Earlier, the sale deeds were being registered without NOCs. But suddenly, a few days back these have been stopped. This is causing a lot of inconvenience to the people,” said MLA Beri.

“The MC has provided a list of 348 unauthorized colonies. There are several flaws in the list as even those areas have been included which were developed before 1995 or have no clear demarcations,” said Rinku.

When contacted, Jalandhar sub-registrar Gurdev Singh Dham said the sale deeds were being registered and there were flaws in the lists provided by the civic body. “The MC had not clearly specified the areas and did not mention the ‘khasra’ numbers. Recently MC officials wrote back that they did not have ‘khasra’ numbers after which I stopped registration of the sale deeds,” he said.

The Jalandhar MC commissioner Diprava Lakra said there could be faults in the lists prepared by the civic body officials. He said now a joint committee of MC and revenue department officials was being formed to clear those points.
