The government announced inauguration of 5-mw solar power plant by Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) at a cost of Rs 33 crore, a move seen as the state-owned company’s foray into the solar sector. Steel Secretary, Aruna Sharma inaugurated the solar plant in Vishakhapatnam, the steel ministry said in a statement. RINL has joined other major corporates in harnessing solar power with this 5-mw Ground Waste Solar Power Plant on its premises, the statement said. Ms. Sharma commended the RINL management for foraying into solar energy in tune with the government’s thrust to tap renewable sources. She said the role of renewable power has been assuming increasing significance in recent times towards the country’s energy security, the statement said.
