    South Western Railway targets 466km of tracks electrification by 2020

    South Western Railway which was created by amalgamating the reorganized Hubli division from South Central Railway with Bangalore & Mysore divisions of Southern Railway recently has announced that Central Organisation for Railway Electrification (CORE) has established a railway electrification project unit at Bengaluru.

    The 2457 km rail route sections of SWR, SCR and CR that will be electrified by this unit include: Kadur – Chikkamagluru, Hospet – Swamihalli, Bangarpet – Yelahanka, Birur – Talaguppa, Chikkabanavara – Hassan, Mysuru – Chamarajanagar, Mysuru – Hassan – Mangaluru including Hassan – Arsikere, Miraj – Kurduwadi – Latur,Gadag – Hotgi, Chikkabanavar – Hubballi, Dharamavaram – Pakala and Nandyal -Yerraguntla.

    Setting up of the railway electrification project unit at Bengaluru will expedite execution of railway electrification projects by facilitating better co-ordination with concerned offices of railway and state government. It will enable to speed up field works also, as focused attention will now be given to those projects. Target for electrification of 466km within SWR is set for 2019-2020. The remaining electrification works will also be taken up in phases and are expected be completed by 2021-2022.
