Rajan was speaking on the sidelines of a two-day workshop organised by BIS in association with the Indian Buildings Congress (IBC) and the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).

She also recommended builders to copiously follow its provisions in their construction programmes keeping the interest of the home buyers as supreme.

“The quick implementation will ensure that large number of buildings being constructed in the country are functionally efficient and are disaster resistant,” said Sanjay Pant, head (Civil Engineering Department), BIS.

NBC 2016 incorporates administrative and technical provisions which can be adopted by the local bodies to revise and revamp their building bye-laws.

The provisions on use of new and innovative materials and technologies and on prefabricated construction techniques can also give fillip to speedier construction to meet the objectives of Housing for All by 2022, added Rajan.

The revised code has also prescribed integrated approval process from all concerned agencies through single window clearance approach and online process for time bound building approvals.
