    Street vendors in India now can soon access solar energy. Selco Foundation is trying to build sustainable, cost-effective energy kiosks through the competition Design + Build 2017 in May.

    Sampath Reddy, a urban systems designer, architect Aditya Venkat and solar expert Akshay Harikumar in one group.

    Nilesh Roy, at the department of architecture, NIIT, were chosen for the project which starts next month.

    The pilot project is to be built at a cost of Rs. 6 lakh.

    Using solar power, it would be able to charge 60 lights. It would be rented out at Rs. 10 per light to vendors and community members on the street.
