Strengthening of Columns with Strengthening System: Case in focus
The project was to strengthen columns at basement level at The Nest Old Age Home Building, in the central part of India. The structure was newly constructed having 5 floors; the five-star style old age home has shown signs of cracks at basement level columns immediately during finishing stage of the project. The standard NDT & Core tests were conducted and were concluded that the columns have not achieved the required grade of concrete. The various option of retrofitting was considered like Jacketing, Steel plate bonding and epoxy Injection. Sika India`s technical got involved in the project along with applicators and provided the unique solution using state of art technology of externally bonded fiber reinforcement (SikaWrap & Sika Carbodur System). The firm’s technical team provided the solution using SikaWrap & Sika Carbodur software as per fib bulletin 14 guidelines for column confinement and fiber anchors. Structural consultants “Skyline Consulting Engineers” were involved and the entire system of strengthening with Carbon fiber wrapping was shared with them.
