Tamil Nadu has 118 projects having 4.91 crore sq ft of green space, followed by Maharashtra which has over 205 projects but with 3.67 crore sq ft of green space.
“India continues to be a leader in the green building movement and the states listed here have shown exceptional leadership and dedication to creating a more sustainable built environment,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, president & CEO, USGBC and Green Business Certification Inc (GBCI).
Maharashtra is followed by Karnataka, Haryana and Delhi.
The ranking is based on terms of gross square feet (GSF) of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), a green building rating system, certified space overall in states.
Such green spaces use less energy and water, save money for families, businesses and communities, reduce carbon emissions and create a healthier environment for occupants and the community at large.
