Italian companies are well known for their excellence in engineering, construction and manufacturing. Their focus on processes and techniques that produce results that are long-lasting, modern and cost-effective are some of the hallmarks of the Italian engineering, construction and manufacturing companies.
The Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce India (IICCI) embarked on a mission to showcase and promote Italian companies’ prowess in the engineering, construction and manufacturing sector. As part of IICCI’s mission, road shows in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai were conducted throughout 2018. At these workshops, the IICCI brought together representatives from Fagioli, Maccaferri, OLCI and Simem to meet and interact with officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA), the Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) and from the Highways & Metro Department of Chennai.
The workshop in Chennai was held a the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCC). The event was attended by the Ms. Stefania Costanza, the Consulate General of Italy in Mumbai, Ms. K. Saraswathi, Secretary General, the Madras Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mr. Cesare Saccani, President, the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IICCI), Mr. Rajeev Narayan Dwivedi, Director (Project & Planning), Chennai Metro Rail Corporation (CMRL), Mr. S. Satheesh ME, Joint Director Planning, Tamil Nadu Highways Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, Mr. R Selvadurai, ME, Superintending Engineer Highways & Metro Department, TN Highways Department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu and other members of industry including representatives from JSW, Lloyd Insulations, Voltech, Codog-notto and more.
The event began with an address from Ms K. Saraswathi, Secretary General, the Madras Chamber of Commerce & Industry in which she gave a brief history of the MCC; its functions and goals. During her speech, Saraswathi highlighted the MCC’s shift towards adopting and promoting clean technology.
The Consulate General, Ms. Stefania Costanza followed, highlighting the prowess of Italian engineering, construction and manufacturing companies. “India is an emerging market and Italy’s interest in India is growing. Italy is home to some of the world’s leading manufacturing companies. Bringing that expertise to India would further enable development and growth in the country,” she said.
Mr. Rajeev Narayan Dwivedi, Director (Project & Planning), Chennai Metro Rail Corporation (CMRL), followed with his presentation on the state of the Chennai Metro Rail. In his talk, he mentioned that the second phase of the CMRL will be a total of 120 kms, with an extension of around 13 kms. Sections of the project are being taken up on an priority basis and tenders for the same should begin to make rounds in about 8 – 10 months time.
Mr. S. Satheesh ME, Joint Director Planning, Tamil Nadu Highways Department then addressed the gathering with a very lively presentation on the activities that the State highway department is undertaking. In his presentation he expressed the department’s emphasis on safety and quality of construction.
Mr. Satheesh’s presentation was followed by presentations from the companies participating, highlighting their various products, strengths and projects. The event turned out to be a well-planned and executed event, with a clear agenda. The event successfully concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Sanjay Mehta.
