According to the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, a 2.6km long zipline to offer a thrill ride will open on the UAE’s highest mountain, Jebel Jais in April, 2016. The authorities claim that it would be the longest in the world. The zipline is expected to give a huge tourism push to the northern Emirate, which seeks to become a hub of thrill seekers and adventurers. A via ferrata — a harnessed high rope pathway, which runs close to cliff edge will also be included with a zip line. To claim the record, the construction will have to surpass the Zip 2000 at Sun City in South Africa, which hurtles people through the air for two kilometres at speeds of 120kph. The RAK Tourism Development Authority, which hopes to attract one million visitors to the area by 2018.
